Holiday Rentals in Seine-Maritime - A Guide to Seine-Maritime
To reach your holiday rentals in Seine-Maritime, you need do nothing more than jump on a ferry in Newhaven or Portsmouth, since both ports sail to Dieppe and Le Havre respectively, and both these towns are in Seine-Maritime.
The departement, coupled with Eure, make up the Region of Haute-Normandie. Your Seine-Maritime property rental is likely to be situated somewhere on the huge plateau that makes up the majority of the region, heavily cultivated and extremely flat. There is, however, a kind of bowl in the middle of the southern part, which is much more wooded, particularly around the departement’s Prefecture, Rouen.
From either French port mentioned above, you can easily reach the A29 Autoroute which runs east west through the whole departement, making it easy to travel around quickly, provided you remembered to pack your car. If you choose to fly instead, perhaps to Rouen, I’d suggest hiring a car from the airport to get to your Seine-Maritime holiday rental. Types of Holiday Rentals in Seine-Maritime
There is an extremely large range of property rentals in Seine-Maritime, ranging from 1 bed apartments right up to chateaux and castles. Most of these tend to be away from the major towns, either by the sea or in rural locations.
Fancy a villa to rent in Offranville? I found one with 5 bedrooms, complete with a sauna and Jacuzzi, and it’s only 7 kilometres from Dieppe port. It is sensibly priced and is decorated tastefully in a modern style. Easy access to the lovely picturesque coastal town of Honfleur, the old world city of Rouen with it’s cathedral, and the well-known port of Le Havre make this property’s location ideal.
If you would like something more rural, how about a 300 year old cottage to rent in Rouen, or more precisely, slightly to the east of Rouen in a village called Bruquedalle? It has 3 bedrooms and an outdoor swimming pool, is reasonably priced, and has been recently renovated in a rustic style. The village itself is home to a cider factory and some stunning chateaux, and the property is set in a lovely valley full of open spaces, perfect for relaxing. Access is really only by car, so if you haven’t brought your own, I’d recommend you read our car hire guide page to see how to get the best deals on car hire in France.
Seine-Maritime Useful Information
Seine-Maritime is divided up into 3 Arrondissements, 69 Cantons and 745 Communes and is surpirisingly the 10th most densely populated departement in France. It has a population of around 1.25 million people, in an area of 6278 square kilometres. Your property rental in Seine-Maritime will be situated in an area with a great deal of history. The capital, Rouen is where Joan of Arc was sentenced to death; the Seine River which runs through the department to Paris was a huge source of river traffic in the past, and still is; William the Conqueror sailed from Normandy when he decided to invade England and there are many associations with Normandy in the Second World War, to name but a few points.
There is a great chalk-cliffed coastline where you’ll easily find a great Seine-Maritime holiday rental, if you so desire, but the interior of the department has great sights to see too. The weather is usually slightly better than the south of England too.
