Holiday Rentals in Nord-Pas-de-Calais - A Guide to Nord-Pas-de-Calais
Your holiday rental in Nord-Pas-de-Calais is situated in the most northerly region of France. The region is bordered by the Straits of Dover to the north and west, Belgium to the east, and the region of Picardie to the south. You can actually see this region of France from Dover on a clear day, and it’s easily reachable by ferry to Dunkerque, Calais or Boulogne-sur-Mer, or using the Eurotunnel to Calais.
If you are looking to sample France for a day trip, you’ll likely not be venturing far without a car, but I’d advise taking a Nord-Pas-de-Calais holiday rental and moving away from the ports and into the countryside or on to the region’s capital city, Lille, to catch a glimpse of true France.
You can drive to Lille in a little over an hour from Calais, or if you catch the train, from either St Pancras station in London, Ebbsfleet, or Ashford in Kent through the channel tunnel, you’ll arrive much quicker. If you choose to take a property rental in Lille, you’ll be able to pick up some transport there, then travel around freely. Types of Holiday Rentals in Nord-Pas-de-Calais
There is a decent selection of property to rent in Nord-Pas-de-Calais. It is possible to rent most types of accommodation in the region, but the selection is mostly apartments or cottages / houses to rent in Nord-Pas-de-Calais.
Whilst researching, I found a lovely apartment to rent in Le Touquet, around 60 kilometres south of Calais. It’s a 2 bedroom apartment close to the beach and only takes 30 minutes to drive to from Calais. It is also very reasonably priced and available all year round. If you’re staying for several days, it’s worth bearing in mind that it only takes 2 hours to drive to Paris for a day trip.
In contrast, I found a gorgeous chateau to rent in Amiens (or more accurately around 15 kilometres north of Amiens). It is superbly maintained, has huge grounds, 9 bedrooms and is reasonably priced. The best part, though, is that it is within easy reach of Calais so won’t take ages to get to. This is a great place for a big family get-together in France, without spending a fortune.
Whatever type of holiday you are looking for, you’ll be sure to find a Nord-Pas-de-Calais property rental to suit.
Nord-Pas-de-Calais Useful Information
The region is divided into 2 departements, being Nord and Pas-de-Calais. There are 13 Arrondissements, 156 Cantons and 1546 Communes. It is a densely populated region, having over 4 million inhabitants in an area of 12,414 square kilometers.
Your holiday rental in Nord-Pas-de-Calais will be situated amongst very flat lands if it’s in the north, or amongst rolling hills to the south of the region, and the whole region has a climate very similar to that of southern England – not surprising, since Dover is only 19 miles from Calais.
The north eastern part of the region, around Dunkerque and Lille, is well known for it’s part in the second World War, with countless museums, graveyards, trenches and memorials, so if you have an interest in the war, you’ll be happy with a Nord-Pas-de-Calais holiday rental in this region.
