Holiday Rentals in Morbihan - A Guide to Morbihan
The departement of Morbihan is situated in the north west of France in the region of Brittany.
The departement itself is in the south of Brittany and has the Atlantic Ocean on its south west border. Holiday rentals in Morbihan benefit from a mild climate and the wonderful sandy beaches of the region.
The departement is a manageable drive from the ferry ports of St Malo, Caen, Roscoff, Cherbourg and Le Havre, making your holiday rentals in Morbihan easily accessible by road. You can also take the train TGV train to Vannes from Paris or flights to Dinard, Rennes or l’Orient from the UK using the low cost airlines including Ryanair.
Morbihan means “small sea” which refers to the Gulf of Morbihan, a small inland sea measuring approximately 10 miles by 6 miles. This natural harbour is made up of many islands, many owned by film stars, but outside the Gulf and still within the department of Morbihan are four inhabited islands: Belle Ile; Houat; Hoedic; and Groix.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Morbihan
Morbihan holiday rentals are popular because of its location near to the sea, its mild climate and its proximity to the UK.
Houses to rent in Morbihan are the most popular type of holiday rentals in Morbihan, and I have just looked at a very nice renovated stone cottage to rent in Auray. The property has 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people. It is ideal for a family rental as it has a garden with a trampoline and swings, and is close to the beautiful sandy Brittany beaches.
If you would prefer a more unusual holiday rental in Morbihan, then how about a beautifully restored watermill from the 18th century. It’s in an idyllic setting, situated on the banks of its own lily pad covered millpond surrounded by weeping willow trees. The property has 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people. Inside there is also a traditional French kitchen and dining area, whilst outside there is a garden, terrace and patio area with a barbeque. The millpond is ideal for boating, swimming or fishing.
Morbihan Useful Information
Morbihan houses to rent are located in 3 arrondisements, 42 cantons and 261 communes which make up the departement covering some 6,800 square kilometres. The prefecture, or central governing point, for the department of Morbihan is in Vannes, a cosmopolitan walled city which boasts cobbled streets, a beautiful cathedral, summertime buskers and a varied shopping area with many shops offering nautical themed goods.
Whilst enjoying your stay in your Morbihan holiday rental, you may also wish to visit one of the five beaches of Carnac, which in the summer offer water as warm as those in southern France. The beaches are sheltered and the town boasts beautiful elegant villas. The town is also considered the French version of Stonehenge because of its 3,000 or so prehistoric megaliths.
Why not also visit La Trinite-sur-Mer, one of the largest marinas on the Atlantic coast, and admire some of the yachts moored at the 1,000 berths. A holiday rental in Morbihan will also give you the opportunity to try some of the local specialities of the area including seafood, crêpes, galettes, oysters and cider.
Whichever type of holiday rental in Morbihan you choose, and wherever you decide to stay, you are sure to enjoy the area and all it has to offer.
