Holiday Rentals in Lyon - A Guide to Lyon

Holiday rentals in LyonYou’ll find holiday rentals in Lyon situated half way between Clermont-Ferrand and Geneva, in the Departement of Rhône, in the Region of Rhône-Alpes. Lyon holiday rentals are located in one of the largest cities in France, after Paris, and the city itself is divided into 9 municipal arrondissements, much like Paris and Marseille.

You’ll find it easy to fly to your holiday rentals in Lyon, as the city has it’s own airport (Saint-Exupéry) which is just 12 miles to the east. The airport handles both domestic and international flights and can be reached easily from the UK.

It’s not necessary to hire a car whilst in Lyon as the city has a good local network of trams, buses and metro. However, if you are thinking of travelling further afield, I’d suggest hiring a car if you have chosen not to drive all the way. Have a look at our car hire guide to see how to get the best deals on car hire in Lyon.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Lyon

Considering the size of the city, I was somewhat surprised to find that there are not that many houses to rent in Lyon.

I did find some apartments to rent in Lyon, one in particular was a nicely decorated 1 bedroom property which comes with air conditioning and can sleep 4 people. It would make a great city centre base from which to explore the local sites, at a reasonable price.

I also found some studio apartments to rent in Lyon, which offer great value for money if there are only 2 of you staying. They tend to be in the heart of the city, close to all the public transport.

Lyon Useful Information

Holiday rentals in LyonHoliday rentals in Lyon are based in one of the largest cities in France. There are many historic buildings and museums to see. Architecturally, the Saint-Jean and Croix-Rousse areas of the city boast great renaissance buildings and have helped the city obtain the title of being a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1998.

At night, over 100 of the city’s buildings are lit up, highlighting the splendid architecture.

You’ll also find a huge number of Michelin star restaurants scattered about the city and Lyon has become known as the French centre of Gastronony. This is also helped in part, by the city’s position between two of the great wine-growing regions of France, Beaujolais to the north and Cotes du Rhone to the south.

There are also plenty of great shopping opportunities in Lyon, centred around the Place Bellecour, right in the heart of the city.

I think you’ll find Lyon holiday rentals will allow you to experience a truly diverse holiday, taking in the sights of the city and also many opportunities to sample the local wines away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
