Holiday Rentals in Loir-et-Cher - A Guide to Loir-et-Cher
Holiday rentals in Loir-et-Cher are located in the larger region of Centre (Val de Loire) in the Loire Valley, positioned in north-central France.
Originally named after the Loir and Cher Rivers, the department is around 2 hours drive south from the capital Paris via the E50 and E05 motorways. Flights from the UK are available to either Tours or Paris Charles de Gaulle Airports or alternatively you can travel on the Eurostar to Le Mans.
Loir-et-Cher holiday rentals are situated in a very quaint and rural area of France, public transport is generally good but it’s well worth hiring a car to get around. With Paris only 2 hours drive away holiday rentals in Loir-et-Cher are an ideal location to take in the rural and city life France has to offer.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Loir-et-Cher
Cottage and house/chalet style properties make up the majority of holiday rentals in Loir-et-Cher, followed by a few farmhouses and the odd chateau and castle mixed in.
Whilst researching these pages I came across two excellent properties. One was a chalet to rent in Souvigny en sologne that sleeps 10 and the other a 15th century stone cottage to rent in St Aignan.
Firstly the chalet, 78m squared of holiday rental which will accommodate 10 people over 3 bedrooms. It has 1 bathroom with a separate toilet and a reasonably sized kitchen and living area. The main appeal of this property is the rural location and outside space, including balcony, terrace and garden area with the obligatory barbeque. It also has the bonus of communal swimming pool to cool off in after a long day sightseeing.
Secondly the 15th century stone cottage which has 60m squared of accommodation within a rural town location. It’s a well equipped property which will sleep up to 8 people with 2 romantic bedrooms, the top floor being in the eaves with exposed beams. The rest of the accommodation includes a bathroom, living room and kitchen/dining area. All this located in the charming town of St. Aigan. This place would certainly make an ideal holiday rental in Loir-et-Cher.
Loir-et-Cher Useful Information
Loir-et-Cher is one of the original 83 departments created during the French Revolution in 1790 and as mentioned previously is part of the larger Centre region. The department is broken down into 3 “Arrondissements”, 30 “Cantons” and 291 “communes” with Blois as its prefecture. The land area is 6343 square kilometres with a population of around 315,000 people.
The main feature of the area and of course one of the main reasons that people opt for a holiday rental in Loir-et-Cher is the Loire Valley itself with its mild and temperate climate with rich and fertile valleys, also famous for the hundreds of châteaux dotted around which were built between the 14th and 16th centuries.
To sum up, holiday rentals in Loir-et-Cher will offer a gentle and refined holiday with all the benefits of a rural setting, but also within easy reach of the busy city of Paris. A plentiful supply of good accommodation within easy reach of the UK make Loir-et-Cher holiday rentals a great choice for couples and families alike.
