Holiday Rentals in Isere - A Guide to Isere
The Department of Isere is in the Rhone-Alpes Region of France, just to the south east of Lyon and directly north of Marseilles.
A great deal of holiday rentals in Isere are in the south eastern corner of the department, since the Alps here, are home to Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes, which are both very popular ski resorts in the winter months. The rest of the department is considerably less mountainous, and reaches almost as far as Lyon.
Grenoble is the Prefecture (essentially the capital) of the department of Isere and has a very good airport with good connections to most European destinations, and was, incidentally, home to the 1968 winter Olympics.
Alternatively, to reach your Isere holiday rental by car, you’ll most likely use the A6 all the way from Paris to Lyon and then the A43 into the heart of Isere. If you are travelling to your holiday rental in Isere from Switzerland, the A41 will take you into the Department of Isere from Geneva,or the A43 east bound from Torino in Italy.
Given Isere’s proximity to both Switzerland and Italy, why not use your Isere holiday rental as part of a multi-centre driving holiday?
Types of Holiday Rentals in Isere
Since the departement of Isere is partially in the Alps, you’ll not be surprised to find out that most of the holiday rentals in Isere are in Alpe d’Huez and Les Deux Alpes. The next most popular destination is Villard-de-Lans, which is again, a centre for winter sports.
Nearly all of the properties in these locations are apartments, usually for between 2 and 6 people, obviously catering mainly for skiers in the winter months.
There are a few other types of property for rent in Isere – I found an enormous great period house in Montagnieu which has 6 bedrooms and will sleep 14 people. It features huge rooms with a grand kitchen and a living room with a massive open fire place, and lots of open space outside.
Alternatively, how about a 6 bedroom house adjacent to a lake, away from the hustle and bustle of the ski resorts, in a place called Paladru?
So don’t dismiss Isere if you are not into your winter sports. There is a wide variety of property for rent in Isere, albeit fairly limited in numbers, in a beautiful part of France, away from all the major cities.
Isere Useful Information
Holiday rentals in Isere are spread over 3 Arrondissements, 58 Cantons and a total of 533 Communes (basically communities or villages). Isere has a population a little over 1 million people and is spread over a land area of 7431 square kilometres.
La Meije is the highest mountain in Isere, at 3984 metres and overlooks the village of La Grave, which is a great place for a skiing or mountaineering holiday rental in Isere.
As an alternative to the obvious winter sports, why not try a holiday rental in Lumbin, which is a famous site for paragliding and hang-gliding and is host to an annual ‘Festival of Free Flight’.
The temperature in Isere is averagely a little over 20 degrees Celsius from June to September, so is a great destination for your France holiday rental in the summer months as well as the winter.
