Holiday Rentals in Ile de France - A Guide to Ile de France
Holiday rentals in Ile-de-France or ‘Région Parisienne’ (as it’s more popularly known by the French) can be found in the heart of France and contains the Capital city - Paris. If you’re travelling from the UK to your Ile-de-France holiday rental you are spoilt for choice. From the ports of Calais or Dieppe you will probably end up using the A16 which runs directly into Paris.
The Eurostar will take you from London St. Pancras to Gare de Nord railway station in just over 2 hours! Or you could try one of Ile-de-France 2 main commercial airports – Charles de Gaulle and Orly. Both have daily flights from the UK and around the world using airlines such as British Airways and low cost airlines such as Ryanair and Easyjet.
Your holiday rentals in Ile-de-France will put you at the heart of one of the most fabulous cities in the world.
With an area of over 12,000 kilometres including the most vibrant city in France your choice of holiday rentals in Ile-de-France is vast.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Ile de France
The largest demand for property to rent in Ile-de-France is for 1-2 bedroom apartments, mostly within the centre of Paris, close to many of the tourist attractions. As nearly all Ile-de-France holiday rentals are apartments it is a good idea to check which floor the apartment is on before booking, especially if you have small children or the elderly with you.
However if you have a large family and are looking outside of the city centre then there are several holiday villas to rent in Ile-de-France. Whilst researching, I discovered a stunning detached villa in Villennes-sur-Seine (west of Paris) which sleeps 8 people, has a pool, a large garden with countryside views, local village shops and all modern conveniences. Perfect for a relaxing family holiday for all generations.
Ile de France Useful Information
90% of Ile-de-France is covered by the capital city – Paris, making it the most populated city in France with 11.7 million inhabitants. It is composed of 8 ‘Departements’ – Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne and Val-d’Oise. It is then split into 25 ‘Arrondissements’, 317 ‘Cantons’ and 1281 ‘Communes’.
The French capital is rich in museums, architecture and the arts. For the romantic among you, a walk along the river Seine is a must; or maybe follow in the footsteps of the great artists and writers in bohemian Montmartre; how about scaling the heights of the Eiffel Tower – there is something for everyone! And don’t forget that Paris is the gastronomic capital of the world with around 7000 cafés alone to choose from.
However there is more to Ile-de-France than Paris. Its rich countryside was a favourite with French Royalty in the 15th and 16th Centuries and is where the Palace of Versailles and Fountainebleau can be found. I have visited the palace at Versailles (situated west of Paris) and can guarantee that if you choose to stay in an Ile de France holiday rental you will be blown away by the opulence and beauty of the chateau and its gardens.
