However if you have a large family and are looking outside of the city centre then there are several holiday villas to rent in Ile-de-France. Whilst researching, I discovered a stunning detached villa in Villennes-sur-Seine (west of Paris) which sleeps 8 people, has a pool, a large garden with countryside views, local village shops and all modern conveniences. 90% of Ile-de-France is covered by the capital city – Paris, making it the most populated city in France with 11.7 million inhabitants. It is composed of 8 ‘Departements’ – Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis, Val-de-Marne, Seine-et-Marne, Yvelines, Essonne and Val-d’Oise. It is then split into 25 ‘Arrondissements’, 317 ‘Cantons’ and 1281 ‘Communes’.
The French capital is rich in museums, architecture and the arts. For the romantic among you, a walk along the river Seine is a must; or maybe follow in the footsteps of the great artists and writers in bohemian Montmartre; how about scaling the heights of the Eiffel Tower – there is something for everyone! And don’t forget that Paris is the gastronomic capital of the world with around 7000 cafés alone to choose from.
