Holiday Rentals in Ile de Brehat - A Guide to Ile de Brehat
Holiday rentals in Ile de Brehat are located in the north west of France, in the department of Cotes-d’Amour, in the Region of Brittany.
Ile de Brehat is an island (really a group of islands) off the north coast of Paimpol.
The closest reasonably sized airport is in Rennes, around 2 and a half hours away by car from your holiday rentals in Ile de Brehat using the N12, and I’d recommend trying Car Trawler for the best deals on car hire in Ile de Brehat - try clicking on the car hire link above this article. But beware.......Cars are not allowed on the island so your hire car will omly get you to the ferry port.
Alternatively, you could drive from Saint Malo or any number of alternative ports on the north coast of France. Saint Malo is a lovely little town in it’s own right, so would be my port of choice. (see our ‘Holiday Rentals in Saint Malo’ page for further information.)
Types of Holiday Rentals in Ile de Brehat
Given the small size of the island(s), you’ll not find too many properties to rent in Ile de Brehat, but those that you will find are all villas and houses to rent in Ile de Brehat.
I found that generally, the houses to rent in Ile de Brehat are 2 or 3 bedroomed country style properties, simply but nicely furnished with some land around them. They all benefit from being close to the sea and have space for car parking.
Alternatively, I found a couple of villas to rent in Ile de Brehat which are slightly larger properties, still built in a traditional country style. The accommodation tends to be slightly more spacious and luxurious, yet prices are still very reasonable.
Ile de Brehat Useful Information
You’ll find your Ile de Brehat holiday rentals on a pair of islands separated only at high tide (and a large number of tiny islands).
Ile de Brehat has a relatively warm climate due to the influence of the Gulf Stream bringing warm weather with it. There is a regular ferry service from the mainland of France and the island(s) are well known for the multitude of wildlife that seeks refuge in this idyllic sanctuary.
The north is a little wind swept and battered, while the south boasts an almost Meditteranean flora with palm trees and eucalyptus in abundance. There are also many nooks and crannies to explore along the coastline, many with little beaches, alcoves and caves.
Holiday rentals in Ile de Brehat are best suited to those liking a relaxed trip away from ‘normal’ life. The island(s) have very few inhabitants in the winter months but are busy with part time residents in the summer.
The only slight issue I can see is that cars are not allowed on the islands, so you’ll need to leave yours on the mainland. This is obviously not ideal, but given the distance from the nearest airport, might be the best solution, especially if you are likely to want to expore the sights of Brittany on your trip.
