Holiday Rentals in Haute-Vienne - A Guide to Haute-Vienne
Your Haute-Vienne holiday rental is situated in the very heart of the French countryside. Forming part of the Limousin Region, Haute-Vienne is half way between Clermont-Ferrand to the east and La Rochelle on the Atlantic coast to the west.
If you fancy driving to your holiday rental in Haute-Vienne, it is easily possible to drive the distance from Calais within a day, even allowing for a drive in the United Kingdom to get to the crossing of your choice. There are several ways to drive to the area, either using Paris or avoiding it. If you choose to avoid it, maybe think about taking a longer ferry journey across the channel from Portsmouth to Le Havre, which will shorten your French driving time by a few hours, then drive south via Le Mans and Tours.
Alternatively, you could fly directly to Limoges, the Prefecture of the Departement. At the time of writing, both Flybe and Ryanair fly direct from a variety of different United Kingdom destinations. However, given the rural nature of the Departement, I’d advise that you hire a car from the airport unless you are intending to stay in Limoges for the duration of your holiday rental in Haute-Vienne.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Haute-Vienne
The majority of property to rent in Haute-Vienne is in houses to rent in Haute-Vienne or cottages to rent in Haute-Vienne, and almost all of these are in rural locations.
I have found a beautiful house to rent in Meusac, a small village around 35 kilometres south of Limoges. It has 4 bedrooms, sleeps 8 people and benefits from a fantastic outdoor swimming pool. The location is very quiet, but with easy access to the main A20 Autoroute for access to Limoges and other places in the Departement. The rental price of the property is very reasonable, particularly given the number of bedrooms.
In contrast, I found an apartment to rent in Eymoutiers, which is a heritage town, to the east of Limoges, close to the beautiful beaches of Lac de Vassiviere. It has 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6 people and has access to a shared private heated swimming pool in the building. Prices are very reasonable, the apartment is well furnished and the location is superb.
Haute-Vienne Useful Information
The Departement of Haute-Vienne is in the Region of Limousin and it’s capital is Limoges. The Departement is divided into 3 Arrondissements, 42 Cantons and 201 Communes. It is relatively sparsely populated, having only around 400,000 inhabitants in an area of 5520 square kilometres.
Whilst there aren’t a great deal of Haute-Vienne property rentals, those that there are, are of good quality and spread all over the Departement. Just bear in mind that Limoges is the only town of any size, so you may want to factor that in when deciding where to select your holiday rental in Haute-Vienne.
