Holiday Rentals in Haute-Saône - A Guide to Haute-Saône

If you are looking for a holiday rental in Haute-Saône, you are probably already aware that it is a departement in the north of the Franche-Comte region of France.

Dijon is not too far to the south-west of Haute-Saône, and has great airport links with United Kingdom and many other European airports. Of course, once you get there, you’ll need to hire a car to get you to your Haute-Saône property rental. Read our car hire guide page to see how to get the best deals on car hire in France.

If you’d rather drive to your Haute-Saône holiday rental, I’d suggest taking the A26 Autoroute south from Calais as far as Troyes, then the A5, and finally the E54 into the heart of the departement. This route will take around 5 to 6 hours from Calais, but you’ll have the benefit of your own car when you get there.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Haute-Saône

The departement of Haute-Saône is not the most interesting in France, more of a relaxation centre than a ‘see the sites’ sort of place. This may be one of the reasons why there are very few property rentals in Haute-Saône. My research has found just a handful of properties, being apartments and cottages / houses to rent in Haute-Saône.

I did find a holiday rental in La Lanterne that is worthy of a mention. Situated in a very rural area, around 12 kilometres to the north of Lure, it’s a 4 bedroom country house, situated on the edge of a lake, which can be used for swimming or canoeing. The property’s décor is traditional and in keeping with the surroundings. I believe it would make a great place for a relaxing holiday, or as part of a two centre trip, possibly to nearby Switzerland.

Haute-Saône Useful Information

The Prefecture of the Haute-Saône Departement is Vesoul, which, even though it is the administrative centre for the departement, is still quite small, having a population of just 17,000 people. Lure is the sub-prefecture, and there are 2 Arrondissements, 32 Cantons and 545 Communes (towns and villages) in Haute-Saône. There are only around 250,000 people here in total, which, in a land area of 5360 square kilometres, is considered to be very sparsely populated.

In summary, you’ll probably find a holiday rental in Haute-Saône appealing if you like to relax in a peaceful unspoilt part of rural France, away from all the usual tourist spots. The weather is warm, but not hot, and the nearby Jura mountains attract a reasonable amount of rain. It is also likely that your Haute-Saône holiday rental will be in or near to forest land, since half of the department is covered with forests.
