Holiday Rentals in Haute Marne - A Guide to Haute Marne
Haute Marne holiday rentals are located within the Region of Champagne-Ardennes in the North East of France. The area is mainly farmland and vineyards and as such is one of the least populated departements in France. However it is an area of outstanding beauty and is a Mecca for wine lovers.
If you are travelling to your holiday rentals in Haute Marne by car then the best route is via Calais. Take the car ferry or Channel Tunnel from Dover and then follow the A26 south and you will reach Chaumont – the prefecture of Haute Marne.
Driving or hiring a car is by far the best way to see all that the area has to offer. So I would suggest that if you decide to fly to the area, and then hire a car at the airport.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Haute Marne
Given the type of landscape found in the Champagne-Ardennes Region, it is unsurprising that most properties to rent in Haute Marne are houses and cottages in rural areas.
However if you fancy something a bit different then how about a stunning studio with mezzanine that I discovered. It is located in Joinville and is within easy walking distance of the shops and the river. It is furnished to a high standard, has access to a private pool and would make a perfect base from which to discover the area.
For larger parties, there is a manor house to rent, situated within the original grounds of Chateau de Cirey. It has 7 bedrooms making it ideal for large family groups or friends sharing. There is a heated outdoor pool, surrounded by beautiful green landscape and the house has been recently restored.
There is something for everyone whilst staying in your Haute Marne holiday rentals. Its landscape lends itself well to most outdoor activities whether relaxed or extreme.
Haute Marne Useful Information
However it is the medieval towns and villages that are amongst the biggest draws. Medieval ramparts enclose most of the town of Langres and its renaissance buildings and dim valleys are very romantic. There are also panoramic views of the Marne Valley and even Mont Blanc on a clear day. It is one of the 50 most beautiful towns in France and in the summer months there are historical re-enactments and fireworks.
Chaumont is also worth a visit. It enjoyed prestige in the 13th Century as the former residence of the counts of Champagne. There are many historical buildings to marvel at but the 600 metre long Viaduct which spans the Suize valley is particularly impressive. And of course you can’t visit Champagne country without tasting the wine itself. Don’t miss the Champagne vineyard of ‘Rizaucourt-Argentolles’ – a must for gourmets and wine-lovers!
