Holiday Rentals in Gers - A Guide to Gers

The departement of Gers is located in the Midi-Pyrenees region in south western France, and takes its name from the river Gers, which has its source at the foothills of the Pyrenees and flows north into the Garonne river.

If you are driving through France to get to your holiday rentals in Gers, you will be able to use France’s excellent road network to reach your destination.  The E15 Euroroute which runs all the way from Scotland to Spain makes the area highly accessible from the UK.  Nearby international airports which offer flights from the UK with low cost airlines (such as Easyjet, Ryanair and Aer Lingus) include Pau, Toulouse, Tarbes-Lourdes and Rodez Marcillac.

As well as easy access by car and air, Gers holiday rentals are accessible by rail, and you can take the high speed TGV train from Paris to Toulouse, Agen or Tarbes.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Gers

Gers holiday rentals are popular because of the good climate, and having researched what is available, it appears that 4 and 5 bedrooms houses to rent in Gers are the most sought after type of property.

There really are some stunning properties and I think if you are travelling with a group of friends or another family, you will be spoilt for choice.  One Gers house to rent I came across caught my eye because it is somewhat unusual.  It’s a 5 bedroom 3 bathroom renovated property, designed by an architect, and mixing rustic charm with modern style.  It can sleep up to 12 people, and is situated atop a hill amidst 6 acres of land, with its own swimming pool.  The views across to the Pyrenees are outstanding and the house is an ideal place to watch the sun go down whilst enjoying a glass or two of locally produced wine such as Cotes de Gascogne.

Another Gers holiday rental which caught my eye is a more traditional type of house to rent in Nogaro.  The exterior of the property is very appealing.  The garden covers about 3 acres and is mostly laid to lawn but has some beautiful flower beds, shrubs and fig and walnut trees, and of course the all important swimming pool.  The property has a gardener and it really shows.   Inside the house there are 4 bedrooms, sleeping up to 8 people, and 3 bathrooms.  The furniture is predominantly antique Chinese, but also has M&S beds and John Lewis sofas!  It is one the nicest, most beautifully kept properties I have seen and I think it would be a fantastic place for a relaxing family holiday.  Gers holiday rentals certainly do have a lot to offer.

Gers Useful Information

Holiday rentals in Gers cover 3 arrondisements, 31 cantons and 463 communes.  In terms of population, Gers is ranked 89th out of 100 departements, so the population is fairly small compared to other departements, in fact Gers is widely reported as one of the least densely populated areas in Western Europe.

The prefecture or central governing point for the departement is based in Auch with sub prefectures in Condom and Mirande.  The weather in summer is hot with temperatures reaching over 40 degrees, so this is an ideal place to visit if you like the heat and the opportunity to get a good suntan!

The departement is mainly agricultural, producing a number of local specialities such as Armagnac brandy and foie gras, and crops including sunflowers, grain and corn.

From what I have seen of the departement, I would say that Gers holiday rentals have so much to offer and would make a perfect choice for anyone.
