Holiday Rentals in Gard - A Guide to Gard

As a department of the Languedoc region of France, Gard, and therefore holiday rentals in Gard are recommended for many reasons. For one thing the Languedoc region of France enjoys some of the best weather in France and Gard holiday rentals are no exception.

The obvious way to get to your holiday rentals in Gard is by flying into Nimes airport, slap bang in the heart of the Gard department. Our good friends at Ryanair fly direct from the UK into Nimes airport but if you can’t find a flight that suits then you can always look at flying into Marseille which isn’t too far away.

If you are flying to your Gard holiday rentals then be sure to read out top tip on how to get the best deals on car hire in France.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Gard

If you’re considering renting a holiday home in this part of France then your choices are numerous. You might like the idea of a holiday rental in Nimes, a fabulous city with a remarkable Roman coliseum that is well worth a look. In fact, if you do choose holiday rentals in Gard then why not take in a concert in the arena? My wife and I saw James Blunt there in 2008 which was fantastic.

If it’s Nimes itself that interests you then apartments to rent in Nimes or a villa to rent in Nimes offer some wonderful choices.

You may also like to consider Holiday rentals in Avignon, another great city not too far from Nimes.Holiday rentals in Port du Roy
If you don’t fancy staying in a city for your Gard holiday rentals then perhaps a town like Uzes might be more to your liking? Uzes is a very pretty medieval town north of Nimes. Uzes holiday rentals consist of either village houses to rent in Uzes in the centre of town or villas to rent in Uzes on the outskirts of town.

Holiday rentals in Gard also have several watery options including holiday rentals in Port du Roy, a fantastic marina development built in 2008.

Port du Roy holiday rentals consist of town houses with roof terraces, small postage stamp gardens and boat moorings.Port du Roy holiday rentals

This development is fantastic and a real favourite of mine. You can walk into the picturesque medieval town of Aigues Mortes in 10 minutes where you will have a generous selection of bars, cafes and restaurants centred around a pretty square.

If you don’t fancy the short walk into town then friends of mine, Tim and Penny are just about to open a bar/restaurant within the marina itself with waterside tables and chairs.

What a wonderful way to spend your lunchtime or evening, sitting outside with some good home cooked grub and a bottle of local wine while watching the comings and goings of the boats in the marina. Tim and Penny will even make you a packed lunch for your day on the beach (10 mins away) or on your boat.

Gard Useful Information

There are some great beaches within the Gard department such as Carnon Plage or La Grande Motte. Friends of mine have booked a holiday rental in Grande Motte this summer so I’ll be sure to ask them to tell me about it so I can add it to this site.

Whether you choose to go for a holiday rental in Carnon Plage or just go there for the day it’s a great beach. The sand is clean, there are no stones or seaweed and if you want to treat yourselves you can pay to go onto one of the very smart private beeches.

Here you can sit up on a wooden deck with your sunglasses on while smart waiters bring you fresh seafood and chilled wine and you watch the beautiful people walk by. Or you might choose to have your lunch brought to you at your comfy sun lounger under your parasol while you watch your children play at the water’s edge 10m in front of you. It’s a lovely way to treat yourselves at a fraction of the price of the same thing on the Cote-d’Azur.

So to summarise, holiday rentals in Gard have many sides to them and come in many shapes and sizes. If this sounds like fun then take my word for it and give holiday rentals in Gard a try and if you can stretch to it, book a Port du Roy holiday rental and spend your evenings being wined and dined by Tim and Penny in their waterside restaurant.
