Holiday Rentals in Doubs - A Guide to Doubs

The department of Doubs is found in the French region of Franche-Comte in the eastern part of France.  It is surrounded to the east by Switzerland, and although French is spoken here, the two dialects of the area from the 13th century are still spoken today.

If you wish to drive to your holiday rentals in Doubs, it may be worth considering the ferry or Eurotunnel to Calais.  Alternatively you may wish to take the train from Paris, in which case the TGV has excellent links to the area.

If flying, you can use the airports at Geneva or Dijon, both of which are well served by flights from the UK.  Don’t forget that if you are considering car hire in France, we can offer some great tips on getting to your Doubs holiday rentals without spending a fortune by getting the cheapest deals on car hire in Doubs.

Types of Holiday Rentals in Doubs

Apartments to rent in Doubs are the most popular type of holiday accommodation, and whilst researching this article on holiday rentals in Doubs I found some very nice examples.

I particularly liked the sound and look of some apartments to rent in Doubs which were described as being in a “craggy valley” in a village beauty spot.  I saw a one bedroom apartment which sleeps up to 4 people.  It looks light and airy and is tastefully furnished.

The apartment has access to a balcony and a garden with a trout stream at the bottom and is surrounded by wooded cliffs and many panoramic view points.  There is a rock climbing route nearby and the area has spectacular walking routes.  I think you could have a very healthy and active family holiday in a place like this.

Doubs apartments to rent are popular and there is plenty of choice, but I also found a very unusual gite to rent in Doubs.  It’s described as an ecological gite on an organic farm, where you can take advantage of the opportunity to buy organic produce straight from the farm including beef, veal, pork, eggs, milk, potatoes and more.

The gite itself is heated by solar panels, as is the swimming pool, and the property has been restored with eco friendly materials.  It has 3 bedrooms and sleeps up to 8 people, and has a traditional interior with white walls and beamed ceilings.  There are 2 bathrooms and 2 separate toilets and a fully equipped kitchen.   There is plenty of choice of Doubs holiday rentals and properties like these offer something a little bit different to the norm.

Doubs Useful Information

Holiday rentals in Doubs are spread across 3 arrondisements, 35 cantons and 594 communes.  The Prefecture, or central governing body, of the department is located in Besancon, which is surrounded by walls built around the 17th century.  There is even a moat in the city centre, around which the roads have been constructed.

The city is famous for its watch production, and you may be tempted to bring home a souvenir or a gift from amongst the wide range of watches produced here.   To the east of Besancon are the Jura mountains which dominate the landscape, and were where palaeontologists first discovered prehistoric rocks from 200 million to 146 million years ago, which is now known as the Jurassic Period.

The area benefits from warm, dry summers, with the warmest and driest month being July.  Whenever you visit, holiday rentals in Doubs are a good choice for a unique family holiday.
