Holiday Rentals in Chamonix - A Guide to Chamonix
You’ll find your holiday rentals in Chamonix, including chalets to rent in Chamonix, nestling quietly in the French department of Haute-Savoie in the well known region of Rhone-Alpes. Be sure to read our articles on holiday rentals in Rhone Alpes and holiday rentals in Haute Savoie for an overview of this wonderful part of France.
If you’re driving to your holiday rentals in Chamonix then do take care to swot up on the weather forecast and be prepared. The town itself is actually not all that high so you’ll stand a pretty good chance of getting through to your Chalet rental in Chamonix without having to resort to snow tyres but you never know.
If you’re driving from the UK then it’s about 900kms from Calais to your Chamonix holiday rentals. The roads are generally very good in France and it will only be the very last part of your journey that might get a bit slippery.
If you’re flying to Chamonix then your nearest airport is Annecy which is served by scheduled flights with British Airways and Air France.
If you want to go via a low cost airline then you’ll be flying into Geneva. Both of these airports are about 100kms away from your holiday rentals in Chamonix.
If you are flying then most of you will want to hire a car, in which case be sure to check out our guide to getting the cheapest car hire in Chamonix.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Chamonix
Essentially if you choose to rent a property in Chamonix you’ve got two choices. You either go for a chalet to rent in Chamonix or an apartment to rent in Chamonix.
If you go for an apartment to rent in Chamonix then you have options to consider such as parking, either underground or above ground and even the availability of a swimming pool.
I rather like the idea of staying in an apartment in Chamonix with a gym, swimming pool and spa so you have a nice way to relax after a day on the slopes.
If you go for a chalet to rent in Chamonix instead then again you more or less have two choices to make. To walk into town or to drive into town. If you fancy a chocolate box scene of pretty wooden chalet nestled in between the pine trees with snow all around and an outdoor hot tub then you’ll have to settle for a drive into town. That is of course unless you want to pay for luxury, then you can rent a picture postcard chalet to rent in Chamonix with cook, maid and even a driver.
If, on the other hand, like us you have small children and you decide that this might be a bit “cut off” and you like the idea of being able to walk into town then your chalet to rent in Chamonix is not going to be quite so picturesque.
Don’t get me wrong, we rented a lovely chalet in Chamonix, about 10 mins walk from the centre of town that lived up to all expectations. They’re just not quite going to be so pretty.
Chamonix Useful Information
Chamonix itself is a really nice town and I can certainly recommend Chamonix holiday rentals for your winter break.
My top tip is to rent your Chamonix holiday rental within walking distance of the town centre if you can do it.
It was nice to stroll into town for a meal or just to browse through the shops. When you’re ready for the slopes then you can drive to the ski lifts in about 5 mins and parking’s easy.
All in all, holiday rentals in Chamonix get 10/10 from me.
