Holiday Rentals in Brittany - A Guide to Brittany
The region of Brittany lies in the north west of France and benefits from a moderate climate, with warm sunny summer days.
If you are driving to your holiday rentals in Brittany from the UK, there are several ferry ports, which are convenient including St Malo and Roscoff in Brittany itself. Cherbourg and Le Havre are also viable options as the excellent network of French roads makes driving to Brittany very manageable.
The region is also linked to other cities in France, including Paris, by the TGV train network. If you prefer to fly to your Brittany holiday rentals, flights are available to international airports at Dinard, Rennes, Nantes, Brest or l’Orient from the UK using the low cost airlines including Ryanair, Flybe and Aer Arann.
Types of Holiday Rentals in Brittany
Houses to rent in Brittany are the most popular type of holiday rental in the region. Three bedroom properties to rent in Brittany are the most commonly sought size of rental, and these may accommodate up to 9 people.
Properties near the sea are very popular, and I found a luxury house to rent in Moelan-sur-Mer with landscaped gardens and a heated pool, which looks ideal for a family holiday. The interior is beautifully finished with terracotta floors, beamed ceilings and traditional Breton furniture. There are 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, and the property sleeps up to 6 people. It’s fully equipped with all the necessary kitchen appliances, and benefits from satellite TV, DVD and CD players. The pool is shared with two other properties, but benefits from a retractable roof, meaning it is useable whatever the weather. The sea is walking distance via a pretty coastal path, and there are many other tourist treats nearby.
I have also researched Brittany houses to rent in rural locations and I came across a quaint 17th century house in a small hamlet next to a farm. It has three bedrooms and sleeps up to 6 people. Outside the property has a gorgeous garden with a Boules area, terrace and barbeque. Although rural, local beaches can still be reached by foot and the property is still within easy driving distance of local tourist attractions such as Mont St Michel, the megaliths of Carnac or the ancient walled pirate city of St Malo.
These are just two properties, which caught my eye. The region is very popular for UK holidaymakers and so you will find plenty of choice of holiday rentals in Brittany.
Brittany Useful Information
The capital of the region of Brittany is Rennes, and other main cities of the region include Nantes, Brest, L’Orient, Quimper and Vannes.
The region is split into four “Departements”: Cotes d’Armor, Finistere, Morbihan and Ille et Vilaine. It is then divided further into 15 arrondisements, 201 cantons and 1270 communes.
It is a fairly large region at approximately 34,000 square kilometres, and whether you are looking for a Brittany holiday rental by the sea or a Brittany holiday rental in a rural location, this pretty part of France has something for everyone.
Whilst enjoying your holiday rental in Brittany, don’t forget to try some of the local specialities, particularly the seafood, oysters, cider, crepes and Breton butter cake.
