Holiday Rentals in Alpes-Maritimes - A Guide to Alpes-Maritimes
Your holiday rentals in Alpes-maritimes will be situated in the very south eastern corner of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region, which is itself, in the south eastern corner of France. The departement is adjacent the Principality of Monaco, north western Italy, the Mediterranean sea to the south and the Alps to the north.
There are two distinctly different types of location for your Alpes-Maritimes holiday rentals, either in the mountains of the Alps, or on the Mediterranean coast.
Since Alpes-Maritimes incorporates a great deal of the French Riviera, which is extremely popular with tourists from all over the world, the airport links in the area are really good. Given the mountainous terrain to the north, it’s probably best to fly into Nice or Cannes Mandelieu, both of which receive flights from all over Europe. It’ll then be a lovely drive north to your holiday rental in the Alps, or a very short drive along the coast to your French Riviera holiday rental.
It’s quite possible to drive to your Alpes-Maritimes holiday rentals, taking about 10 hours from Calais if you drive down the middle of France to Clermont-Ferrand and then head south east. At least that way you’ll avoid the slow roads through the Alpine mountains (unless of course, that’s what you want to do).
Types of Holiday Rentals in Alpes-Maritimes
Most of the properties for rent in Alpes-Maritimes coastal areas are sea-side resort based, and are usually apartments (expensive but well equipped, in keeping with the area’s reputation).
However, in the mountains to the north, there is a wide variety of different accommodation available, either being apartments to rent in Alpes-Maritimes, villas to rent in Alpes-Maritimes or houses to rent in Alpes-Maritimes. These properties are mainly centred around the ski resorts, but also offer a great mountain base for exploring the wonders of the Alps in summertime.
I’ve also discovered that there are a few select villas to rent in Alpes-Maritimes, in the area between the Alps and the coastal hustle bustle. The location here is much more rural, being away from major towns and set in lovely rolling hills. The weather here is pleasantly warm and sunny, so you’ll be able to make good use of the swimming pool attached to most of these villas.
Alpes-Maritimes Useful Information
The departement of Alpes-Maritimes is part of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d’Azur region, and is divided into 2 Arrondissements, 52 Cantons and 163 Cantons, which are the towns and villages.
The land area is only 4299 square kilometres, but with a population of well over a million, the departement is relatively crowded, though the concentration of people is definitely along the coast line.
If you’d like to stay in the departement’s Prefecture, try holiday rentals in Nice, which is second only to Paris in terms of quantity and size of hotels, and is a popular tourist destination all year round, or try holiday rentals in Cannes, which is famous for it’s annual film festival.
The temperature in the departement varies from low teens (Celcius) in winter to 26 or 27 degrees Celsius in the summer, averagely, with very little rain in July and August, so if you are looking for a warm climate, you’ll be able to find an Alpes-Maritimes holiday rental to suit you all year round.
